The PROBLEM
Year after year, final year students from universities graduate to face the country's job realities: massive unemployment or underemployment (work that does not require a degree nor diploma).
Interestingly, technology that has brought huge benefits into the job market worldwide, has altered or completely changed the world of work in almost all sectors. This has caused and continue to cause hardships for graduating students year after year.

We do not give our students quizzes nor tests, neither do we award certificates on completion of the programme. You have had enough of these from your various universities and colleges. The end result of Skill in Me Programme is the evidence of actual startups opened by our students. But hey, a certificate is awarded once your startup is opened.
Bridging the Gap Between Unemployed and
Employed University Graduates
THE
PRESENT LARGE NUMBER of graduating university students is one of the
fastest-growing issues in most countries. This is largely true in Ghana due partly
to the introduction of the 3-Year Senior High Schools that prepare students to
enter tertiary institutions, instead of the earlier 7-Year period. This has led
to a huge number of graduates who stay unemployed several years, after their
one-year mandatory national service programme.
While
working with some of these unemployed graduates in Ashanti, Ahafo, Eastern and
Central Regions on a project, dubbed Think
for Change, after my MPhil Leadership Programme at UPSA in 2017, I noticed
some salient but useful skills in most of these young graduates that could be
harnessed to solve societal problems. I said to myself: “This is a business
opportunity”. Having conducted some feasibility studies, Skill in Me, an online educational programme was established 2021. This
is a bit-sized learning content with motivational quotes and related videos to
inspire the teeming unemployed and underemployed graduates to use their already
acquired skills, knowledge and abilities to start their own businesses.
The
online platform consists of 16 Lessons that can be accessed by means of subscription starting May 1, 2025. Currently, users can access Lessons 1, 2 & 3 for free. All lessons are easy to read, understand and can be done at learners' own time and pace. There are no
exercises nor quizzes to write. The main idea is to assist you to unearth and sharpen your acquired skills to enable you see challenges that you are passionate about. These are to motivate you to seek for solutions and to make your surroundings better than you first saw it.
Happily, you will be finding yourself a job, doing what you love, what you are good at, what your society needs, what you can be paid for, and what can help fulfil your life purpose.
